Moroccan Immunity Tea

Much is still unknown about the novel corona virus and how long will it take to develop a vaccine. In the meantime, while waiting on the miracle cure, there are things we can do to boost our immune system and protect ourselves from getting sick. I believe if we follow the safety guidelines provided by the CDC, as well as keep a diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber then we give the virus no chance. As my mother used to say “prevention is the best protection.” In the coming weeks I will be sharing a recipe for a home remedy that will help to boost your immune system and overall health.

Background

Growing up in the mountains of North Africa the climate can be harsh— cold frigid winters and burning hot summers. Mint tea is a traditional popular hot drink in Morocco and it is consumed every day; a few times throughout the day. Basic tea is made by steeping green tea with mint leaves and organic raw sugar as a sweetener. But during the winter my family’s morning breakfast tea was no ordinary mint tea, added to it were a few magical ingredients to help strengthen our immune system against the winter cold or flu.

This tea will give you a boost of warmth and energy due to the antioxidants vitamins and anti-inflammatory components found in the ginger, mint, anise star, lemon, honey, fennel.

Turmeric, fennel, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, mint  and star anise in some clinical studies have been shown to break down mucus which makes it easier for your body to remove the mucus from it’s airway and help relieve coughing and improve your ability to breathe. In addition to their respiratory benefits, these spices combined together do wonders for your immunity due their nutrients contents , antioxidants and anti-inflammatory abilities.
